1. Talk through the process Jesus used to train up disciples. Why is it important to start with instruction before inviting disciples to join us in shared ministry?

2. Read Matthew 16:24-26 and Luke 14:25-33. What do you think Jesus was saying when He called on them to “hate their father and mother” and to “give up all their possessions”?

3. What are some of the ways leaders equip disciples for ministry corporately and individually?

4. What some of the ways members equip disciples for ministry corporately and individually?

Community Prayer

We join together in the spiritual practice of prayer. Here's what our church family is lifting up this week:

SUNDAY - Father, we are thankful for the opportunity to worship you collectively as a church family. We want to worship you in spirit and in truth as we honor you. Thank you for everyone that works to bring the worship services to us on Sunday morning.

MONDAY - Father, we thank you on this Labor Day for the work you have provided for us. Help us to honor you with our labor. We pray that you would provide employment for those who are looking for work. Help us to avoid laziness and to perform all of our work to the best of our abilities.

TUESDAY - Father, we pray those impacted by the flash flood at the Grand Canyon. We ask that you would provide comfort to those who lost loved ones and healing to those who were injured. We are so very grateful for everyone involved with protecting the lives of those in danger and we are grateful for the warning system technology. We continue to pray for the victims of recent floods across the world and ask that these disasters might turn hearts to you.

WEDNESDAY - Father, we pray for the Thrive ministry groups, both the weekly and monthly studies. We ask you to bless Thrive leadership, volunteers, and participants. Thank you for our church’s interest in the spiritual foundation and growth of our ladies as well as the importance of the community of women. We pray that the women who attend will be touched by your Spirit.

THURSDAY - Father, we pray for a increased desire to know you more and to seek your kingdom. Lord, please help us to store our treasure in heaven and serve only you as our master. Help us to trust in you to provide for us as you have promised to do (Matthew 6: 19-33).

FRIDAY - Father, we come to you today praying for your healing of those in our Solid Rock family who are suffering with illness or physical pains. We pray for you to heal their bodies and encourage their spirits. Lord, sustain us when we are sick and restore us to full health (Psalm 41:3).

SATURDAY - Father, we pray today for forgiveness. Sometimes it seems like we want to do what is right and don’t do it, but rather end up doing just the opposite (Romans 7:15). We know we are fallen but we also know that because of the sacrifice of Jesus, complete forgiveness is available to those who believe in him and repent (Mark 1:15).

Should it be different? 3. How does recognizing my own sinfulness affect the way I view other people who have sinned? 4. How might my prayer life change if I prayed more often, “Lord, do Your work in me,” rather than simply asking God to give me what I want? 5. We thank you that you have redeemed us in your steadfast love. MONDAY - Almighty God, the King of creation, we thank you for salvation, health, protection, sustenance and defense. We praise, exalt and glorify you as the King of Heaven (Dan. 4:37). TUESDAY - Jesus, we depend on you to save us from sin and we pray for your forgiveness. You are our spiritual Rock of the ages giving us living water (1 Cor. 10:4). WEDNESDAY - Father, we pray today for unity within your church. What was He showing (teaching) them in each of these situations? · First miracle - Cana (2:1-11) · Temple Cleansing (2:12-25) · Nicodemus receiving instruction (3:1-21) · Salvation to Samaritan Woman (John 4) 2. Why did Jesus instruct His disciples to “come and see” not “come and do”? 3. What are some of the ways we enfold visitors with our corporate enfolding? (Remember, Corporate Enfolding is sharing who we are as a community with our corporate actions.) 4. What are some of the ways we enfold visitors with our individual enfolding? (Remember, Individual Enfolding is sharing who we are as a community with our individual actions.) 5. We enfold with our words and our ways. What are some ways you could be enfolding more effectively in your Sunday worship? Here's what our church family is lifting up this week: SUNDAY - Father, we are thankful for the opportunity to worship you collectively as a church family. Where are you tempted to think, “I have tried to obey God, so why hasn’t he given me this?” What does that reveal about what you may be seeking from God more than God himself? Why do you think Asaph’s perspective changed when he entered the sanctuary? How has gathering with God’s people helped correct your vision when your heart was discouraged, envious, or confused? What would it look like for you to say with Asaph, “God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever”? Here's what our church family is lifting up this week: SUNDAY - Jesus, we pray that we would be more like you, today and every day. We pray that we would not merely be content with changing the outside—varnishing ourselves to look good to others—but that we would seek real heart change. We pray for the Holy Spirit to change us from the inside (Ephesians 4:17-32). MONDAY - Father, we commit this week to you, trusting that your plan for us is perfect. We thank you that you provide abundantly for us each day. We pray for your presence to be with us this week so that we would reflect your character. Help us guard what we say so that we would be a source of encouragement to others by speaking what is good and helpful (1 Cor. 4:25). TUESDAY - Father, today we pray for SRCF-sponsored missionaries Steve and Laura Newkirk with World Venture in Senegal. We continue to thank you for the Wolof translation of the Bible and for the ongoing production of the audio version. We ask for your blessings for Steve and Laura, as well as the Senegalese leadership and participation in the church. WEDNESDAY - Father, help us resist the kind of temptation that the world has to offer. Instead, we turn to you for the wisdom that enables us to make choices that are pleasing to you. THURSDAY - Father, we pray today for our church family. We are thankful for our leadership and this body of believers who are committed to Jesus. We ask that you would cause us to delight in your word, to seek to become more Christlike, and to move toward maturity in our understanding of the Gospel. FRIDAY - Father, we continue to pray for our nation. You have placed us all here for a purpose and with the opportunity to share the Gospel within the freedom of religion we enjoy. Help us not to take this precious freedom for granted. Increase our faith to trust you that our lives and the future of our country are safely in your hands. SATURDAY - Father, we pray that you would draw us closer to you. Reveal your truth, wisdom, and love to us, and help us to experience the fullness of your grace and peace. We ask that you would strengthen our faith and empower us to walk in your light. Giving Your generosity makes our work in this city possible.
