This Week's Message
“Example of Endurance”
Ryan Lynn 1 Thessalonians 1
Sermon notes for 10/11/26
Main Point: You can hold on when you know where your help comes from.
1. I am with you— 1 Thessalonians 1:2–6
It’s not enough to be an example of surviving; we must be an example of enduring in Christ.
It’s not enough to be an example of surviving; we must be an example of enduring in Christ.
2. Hold on — 1 Thessalonians 1:7–9
3. Help is on the way — 1 Thessalonians 1:10
Maybe God changes your circumstances tomorrow or maybe He doesn’t. Our ultimate hope is that Jesus is coming to set all things right.
SERMON REVIEW
Quick Review
- What stood out to you most from this passage or message?
- What does the Thessalonians’ example teach us about enduring difficult circumstances?
Digging Deeper
- Read 1 Thessalonians 1:2–6. How did relationships with other believers help the Thessalonians endure? Who knows what you are going through right now, and who are you allowing to walk through it with you?
- Read 1 Thessalonians 1:8–9. The Thessalonians “turned to God from idols.” What are you tempted to hold onto alongside Jesus—approval, relationships, success, pleasure, control, comfort, or something else?
Taking it Home
- Where are you tired of waiting on God? What have you stopped praying about or begun to believe will never change?
- Where are you tempted to let go of Christ rather than hold on to Him? What would “holding on” practically look like this week?
- Who needs to hear “I’m with you, hold on, help is on the way” from you this week? What could you actually do to walk with them?
- Finish this sentence and share it with the group if you're willing: “This week, I need to trust God with ________.”

Community Prayer
We join together in the spiritual practice of prayer. Here's what our church family is lifting up this week:
SUNDAY - Father, may our trust in Jesus bring praise and glory to you. We ask you to help us ignore voices that try to define us by external factors like appearance, success, or other people’s opinions. Thank you that our identity is in Christ, and we pray you would help us remember that.
MONDAY - Father, as we step into this new week, we ask for your wisdom to make the right choices and for your strength to accomplish each task set before us. We invite you into every situation, knowing that with you, all things are possible (Mark 9:23).
TUESDAY - Father, we come before you with thankfulness for all the blessings in our lives and for providing our every need. We thank you for your mercy, grace, love, and patience. We especially thank you for Jesus, in whom we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). Thank you, Jesus, for being born as a human, living a perfect life, dying for our sins, and conquering death by rising from the grave.
WEDNESDAY – Father, we continue to pray for Pastor Matt while he is on sabbatical. We ask that his comfort level increases daily while he is entrusting Pastor/Elders, ministry leaders, and staff to succeed in leading and caring for Solid Rock in his absence. We ask for your continued blessings for Matt and Dianna while they are away.
THURSDAY - Father, we confess our sins before you and we repent and ask for your forgiveness. Please free us from the bitterness we carry because of pain caused by others and help us remember to forgive others as you have forgiven us.
FRIDAY - Father, we pray for each other in the body of Christ and for your people at Solid Rock. Help us to recognize the ways we can encourage and help each other. Let us not hold grievances against each other but have hearts to forgive.
SATURDAY - Father, we humbly bow before you as the one and only God, and worship you as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We love you as our Creator, Savior, and Comforter, and pray that our lives would glorify you. May our lives be a continual prayer unto you, giving thanks in all circumstances as this is your perfect will for us in Christ Jesus (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18).
