This Week's Message
Making Disciples His Way “Come and See”
Bob Childress John 1:19-51
Sermon outline for 9/6/26
1. How Jesus enfolded disciples (John 1:19-51):
· He invited them to ______________ and ______________.
2. What the disciples saw:
· First miracle - Cana (2:1-11)
· Temple Cleansing (2:12-25)
· Nicodemus receiving instruction (3:1-21)
· Salvation to Samaritan Woman (John 4)
3. How we enfold disciples:
· We enfold _________________.
· We enfold _________________.
4. Three keys to successful corporate enfolding:
· We must love one another _________________ and _________________ (John 13:35-36, 1 John 3:16-18).
· We must seek to _________________, not be served (Mark 10:42-45, Phil. 2:3,5).
· We must welcome with _________________ acceptance not with _________________ partiality (James 2:1-8).
Enfolding: Evangelism and an invitation for others to “come and see” is what we are all about. In enfolding, we are following the “Come and See” model Jesus used to introduce Himself to those interested in becoming disciples.
Questions for Discussion and Application
1. Jesus began the enfolding process by inviting His disciples to “Come and See”. What was He showing (teaching) them in each of these situations?
· First miracle - Cana (2:1-11)
· Temple Cleansing (2:12-25)
· Nicodemus receiving instruction (3:1-21)
· Salvation to Samaritan Woman (John 4)
2. Why did Jesus instruct His disciples to “come and see” not “come and do”?
3. What are some of the ways we enfold visitors with our corporate enfolding? (Remember, Corporate Enfolding is sharing who we are as a community with our corporate actions.)
4. What are some of the ways we enfold visitors with our individual enfolding? (Remember, Individual Enfolding is sharing who we are as a community with our individual actions.)
5. We enfold with our words and our ways. What are some ways you could be enfolding more effectively in your Sunday worship?

Community Prayer
We join together in the spiritual practice of prayer. Here's what our church family is lifting up this week:
SUNDAY - Father, we are thankful for the opportunity to worship you collectively as a church family. We want to worship you in spirit and in truth as we honor you. Thank you for everyone that works to bring the worship services to us on Sunday morning.
MONDAY - Father, we thank you on this Labor Day for the work you have provided for us. Help us to honor you with our labor. We pray that you would provide employment for those who are looking for work. Help us to avoid laziness and to perform all of our work to the best of our abilities.
TUESDAY - Father, we pray those impacted by the flash flood at the Grand Canyon. We ask that you would provide comfort to those who lost loved ones and healing to those who were injured. We are so very grateful for everyone involved with protecting the lives of those in danger and we are grateful for the warning system technology. We continue to pray for the victims of recent floods across the world and ask that these disasters might turn hearts to you.
WEDNESDAY - Father, we pray for the Thrive ministry groups, both the weekly and monthly studies. We ask you to bless Thrive leadership, volunteers, and participants. Thank you for our church’s interest in the spiritual foundation and growth of our ladies as well as the importance of the community of women. We pray that the women who attend will be touched by your Spirit.
THURSDAY - Father, we pray for a increased desire to know you more and to seek your kingdom. Lord, please help us to store our treasure in heaven and serve only you as our master. Help us to trust in you to provide for us as you have promised to do (Matthew 6: 19-33).
FRIDAY - Father, we come to you today praying for your healing of those in our Solid Rock family who are suffering with illness or physical pains. We pray for you to heal their bodies and encourage their spirits. Lord, sustain us when we are sick and restore us to full health (Psalm 41:3).
SATURDAY - Father, we pray today for forgiveness. Sometimes it seems like we want to do what is right and don’t do it, but rather end up doing just the opposite (Romans 7:15). We know we are fallen but we also know that because of the sacrifice of Jesus, complete forgiveness is available to those who believe in him and repent (Mark 1:15).
